I teach songwriting, performance & voice in person and via Skype. My approach is about finding a truer voice in your writing, singing and performing. In singing and performing I call it “Sing What You Mean; Mean What You Sing.” In voice and performance, I work from the inside out, guiding you to find an in-the-moment performance that remains fresh and authentic and gets the song’s intent by paying careful attention to meaning in phrasing. In writing, I can help you hone your craft, guiding you in elements of form as well as help you see your own gifts in lyric and music.
The word 'authentic' is overused these days, but you know it when you hear it and I will help you target who you are and how to put that across more honestly in your work. I have over 20 years experience teaching singers, songwriters and actors, and have been on staff and taught with The National Shakespeare Company, at The Berklee College of Music, Rocky Mountain Folks Festival Song School, The Kerrville Folk Festival Song School, The Sisters Americana Academy, with The International Folk Alliance, The Northeast Regional Folk Alliance and many others.
I have a BA from Amherst College and received an Actor’s Training Certificate from the National Shakespeare Conservatory’s Classical Repertory 2 Year Professional Training Program in NYC. I have studied voice for over 35 years.
I am also available for career coaching in this world of singer/songwriter touring and recording. Same rates apply.
Sessions are 50 minutes and I can do them online via Skype or in-person in my Hendersonville, TN studio (just 15 min north of Nashville).
Reduced rates for multi-session packages.
