Amy, delighted to see your name on the lineup for the Philly festival. I'm still a member of the Philly Folk Song Society though it's been decades since I last went to the festival. It's a long way from Dallas. I'm hoping the January 2009 date works out. I promised a friend that I would (finally) go to Okema next year. I hope you are back there. Remind me to share a fashion tip.

You're on the WFUV list of 16 New Artists You Need to Know in 2008 (at www dot wfuv dot org slash enews slash 0801 slash newartists) They said "Amy's a native of the Northeast who sounds like she grew up in the South. She moved to New York after college to pursue an acting career and but, thank God, she got sidetracked by music and has become an alt-country fixture ever since, with a gorgeous voice, an engaging stage presence, and a killer backing band, The Tearjerks. Signed to Judy Collins' Wildflower Records, she'll record her next CD this year with the legendary North Carolina producer Mitch Easter"

-- we've come a long way since "Sweeney Todd" and "Miss Julie." (I thought you gave an expert performance in both, by the way.) Best wishes to you always. -- Adam Timrud (LA, CA)

Hey Amy and band,
I'm the sound guy at the Argus Lounge in SF. Your show there was amazing, I know I gushed all over you folks after the show, and I know it's been a while since the show, but i just wanted to say your scaled down band with the exoctic 3 piece drum set was delicious ear candy for me and every one there...and your angelic voice is an irresistable siren call that keeps me going back to the cd you gave me. I have one of those old 5 disc rotation cd players and every cd has been switched out many times except for yours. I am a huge fan of you and the whole band. I know we don't pay anything, and we're a hole in the wall, but when you come to the west coast, please don't forget us.

You are definately "the real thing"

When he first came to us he was half starved and has some remnant food aggression issues. If you have any interest, please let me know and I'll send you more detailed information. Hope all is well. We're loving your CD's and reliving that wonderful evening at the Fergusons'.

Hi Amy,
Just wanted to drop a note to thank you and the band for a terrific concert at the One Trick Pony in Grand Rapids. It was a great night; good food, great music, lots of fun and a wonderful event to raise money for Catherine's Care Center. I don't know how much you know about who we are and what we do but I thought (since you helped raise money for us) I'd tell you. We're a free medical clinic that sees folks with no insurance and low incomes. We're named after this Long-dead nun, Catherine McAulley (Like 1700's in Ireland). I thought about her when you were doing your lead in to "The Real Thing" You talked about well behaved girls never making history. Catherine would have had a good laugh at that. She was way ahead of her time and broke lots of rules to get things done. I think she was probably one of the first female activists. She came from money, left it all and was ostracized by society(because well behaved, proper rich debuatants just didn't go live in the slums to take care of poor sick folks.)She later used all her inheritance to set up places poor sick people could get help. I hope that her namesake, Catherine's Care Center is THe real thing too. We're all stretching a few rules and making history.

Thanks for your help. We loved your music. God Bless!

Karen J. Kaashoek RN
Executive Directoe
Catherine's Care Center

Josh, It was more of a "inside joke" towards RMS than one to Wilco. I've tried to listen to them and just can't apprechiate any of it. I'm sure they have written plenty of worthy songs. I like to call them Uncle Wil-Volt.

Josh K - Monday, January 29th, 2007 2:45 PM
Much, I am sure, to Platzie's chagrin, I think you should cover "Pecan Pie" by Golden Smog (lyrics and music by Jeff Tweedy).

Sitting here at a computer at Texas Lutheran University on a Sunday mornin'. Called up your website and all of a sudden it's playing tidbits of your songs. I gotta say, girl. Excellent songs, along with a dreamy voice. The sound reminds me of Bonnie Raitt's breakout album of many years ago. Saw you at ART's Ribhouse in Austin, a while back. I hope you are doing and feeling well. DBS

Hi Amy,
greetings from the great south land (country new south wales, Australia).
I just got round listening to #81 of http:/rradio.com and heard "THE REAL THING". It's a wonderfull song, lots of wise words :)
Plus a beautiful voice to go with it. Horace must have been on holiday when you did that recording...

Dear Amy - Saturday, October 28th, 2006 1:57 AM
Hello Amy ... I just wanted to tell you once again how wonderful it was to have the opportunity to hear you sing this evening at Beaners in Duluth. Your songs were simply wonderful and the only word that comes close to describing how I feel about the way you sing them is simply Wow! You are a remarkably talented (and beautiful ... sigh ...) woman. I left Beaners with a warm, enlivened heart hoping that I one day might have the opportunity and to hear you sing them again in person. Thank you so much for bringing your special sunshine into my Heart, Buddy Green.

As a fan of both Amy Speace and bootliquor.com, I'm asking that you get "Double Wide Trailer" onto the rotation at bootliquor.com! It would fit perfectly with the Drive-by Truckers and Hank Williams and other drinkin' and boozin' and red neck livin' songs they play, and would introduce your music to a whole new batch of folks.

From their home page: We're "dysfunctional country-rock-folk", with an emphasis on simple arrangements and interesting subject matter. Bland, mainstream, cliche-laden country isn't what we're about. Contact info for submitting tunes is on their homepage.

Thanks!

Great to finally see you and the band. Awesome! Toad is a hip little place, eh. That jazz trio after you was pretty tight. Did you check them out when you came back? Sorry couldn't stay if you did, it was a school night after all.
Didn't you sit in on sax in jazz band like senior year?? I know it was 20 years ago.

I think last night's Panzer concert was one of my all time favorite Panzer concerts that I've ever been to! Goose bumps, Girl. I tellya, goose bumps! Starting with Iain's talent and humor, and his tenderness and sweetness with his wife (you may not have seen them slow dancin' in the kitchen when you were singing "Shed this Skin"...oh, melt, melt, melt) and then your incredible voice and having the added dimension of The Tearjerks behind you. Wow! It was a happy, happy night! Thanks so much for the incredible evening.

Amy, miss you. Hey I spent last week with Cat Braaten and wrote a song inspired by her called "She's Made For Sunshine" while we were at SteelBridge SongFest.

She checks her hair in the mirror
The one on the passenger's side
I'm shifting gears
To drop the mini-coupe into drive
We've got the top down
Her knees are sticking out of her jeans
And I'm just a class clown
Wondering how this happened to me

That certain color of brown
Like the polished wood on an antique boat in town

She's made for sunshine
She's made for sunshine

We drive by the water
The seagulls are circling the boats
She flips her collar
And smiles when I offer my coat
It's cool by the shoreline
Which is good cuz the city is hot
And we've got some free time
I'm gonna savor every minute we've got

Her laughter flies in the wind
And I just love how our love keeps growing

She's made for sunshine
She's made for sunshine
She's made for sunshine
She's made for sunshine

The end of the day is coming and we ain't finished sunning

She's made for sunshine
She's made for sunshine
She's made for sunshine
She's made for sunshine

See you soon? Hope so... -Charlie

Hi Amy,

I just received your new CD "Songs For bright Street'. While reading the inner booklet I noticed you mentioned my late uncle Kemal and Aunt Marge Feridun.

You might have figured already; I am Rich Feridun's cousin.

Being over 50 years old and familiar with folk music of Peter Paul and Mary, Joan Baez, Bob Dylan I like your music but I am not sure if this is good or bad in 2006! Anyway I wish you and the band the best of luck and success.

Regards,

Amy-

This is an NSC Alumni Shout-out. I don't know if you remember me, but I was year behind you back at old 591 Broadway (I remember your Cordelia to this day)-I was the only other student who appreciated Sondheim (I remember myself and Bruce helping you prepare "On the Steps of the Palace" for a big audition), and we used to take Lisa J's extracurricular classes together and hang out in the alley garden of your old East Village pad. Last time I saw you, you were just starting to do your own stuff with Moonworks-I am so impressed with how well you are doing. I too now live in Jersey City and while walking through Hoboken today I saw the cover story in The Current and went, "Hey-I know Amy Speace!" So glad to see you doing so well, and I will get your new CD and try to catch your act sometime!

Anita - Thursday, May 18th, 2006 11:03 AM

I didn't know you personally or have any classes with you, but I knew who you were. Like the website. When I get a chance, I'll have to purchase one of your cd's. Ciao for now.

Mary, Thanks so much for your thoughts. I'll be back on the west coast later this year, for the CD Release tour out there and for sure I'll let you know. :)

Mary - Monday, May 16th, 2005 9:03 PM
Hey Amy, check to see if you're coming out to SF soon, my baby son, Liev, loves "Two Ships" (btw).
Read your recent InnerSpeace, Rwanda Hotel, I believe that you speak for many of us, the frustration over the media's coverage of Teri Schiavo and yet, hundreds of thousands are being brutally murdered, and the surviors are left to starve. Yes, how can one sit and down and think of a song, and yet, here is material indeed for a song to be sung, which can lead the rest of us to speak out publicly about the atrocities in Dafur. Perhaps call it just as you ask "When will Never mean Never?" I truly wish the media and celeb personas would speak out, but the only person besides Nicholas Kristoff and the attempts of Colin Powell was Angelina Jolie who worked at the refugee campsites with the UN.

Amy - Wednesday, May 11th, 2005 2:31 PM
Robbie!!!! I always think of you when I'm in Nashville. I'm headed back to Santa Barbara in June...are you going? Let's definitely catch up. Hope you're well and writing up a storm.

Amy

Robbie B - Tuesday, May 10th, 2005 1:32 AM
Hey girl, just got the reminder about Durango songwriters and thought of you. I see you're hanging out with my buddy Justin. Hope all is well in your world. Goin' to Nashville in July and maybe coming to NYC in Jan. Let's catch up, before then:). K? Love ya, Robbie

Amy - Monday, May 9th, 2005 4:59 PM
Hi Jeff!

See ya next week.

Sean Wallace - Friday, March 25th, 2005 5:26 PM
For everyone who missed the other side of sweet melancholy Amy, you should have been at the Alphabet Lounge Thursday night.
A new place, pretty quiet on an early NCAA evening, and Amy and Rich are doing a mellow guitar set, breaking in the place.
There's a few people, and the members of the following band, who are bringing in equipment in the back of the room. They're not really paying attention and as Amy goes into her last song, Shed this Skin (one of my favorites) the volume of conversation by these guys starts to compete with Amy's crescencdo, which is loud.
Visibly frustrated, our rocking country-alt-folk singer suddenly unplugs and "leaps" off the stage and still belting out the tune walks across the entire bar to stand in front of the talkers! It was an amazing sight. And she was singing the whole time. Needless to say, it brought the place to a standstill.
It's rude to talk when performers are working their ass off, even ruder when you are the following band.
Rock on Amy.

Tony/WayneSupergenius - Friday, March 25th, 2005 4:01 PM
hey amy!
